Life-Support (TILS™) Course

For non-registered healthcare professionals operating to ILS standards of pre-hospital emergency resuscitation in tactical settings.

Tactical Immediate Life Support (TILS™) teaches non-registered practitioners how to care for patients in both medical and traumatic cardiac arrest within a civilian tactical environment.

The Medics Lodge have created a bespoke programme that provides an educational, but hands-on immediate life-support course. This course is specifically for individuals operating to ILS level of pre-hospital resuscitation.

This course delivered in partnership with Alford Group and is predominantly for non-registered healthcare practitioners such as military medics, Police medics, student paramedics, event medics, close protection staff and other first-responders who may be responsible for providing emergency life-support to individuals in hazardous environments.

Delivered in the picturesque Southwest of England, just a 30-minute drive from Bristol Airport, Broadmead and Emborough Range are premium, self-contained state of the art facilities that offer a training environment like no other in the United Kingdom.

TILS™ Course Modules.

The Medics Lodge Tactical Immediate Life-Support Course covers a wide range of core topics which build upon delegates preestablished knowledge base. Our delivery includes numerous hands-on skill-stations on basic, to advanced clinical interventions and procedures.

Medical and Traumatic Cardiac Arrest aetiologies.

Hypovolaemia Interventions & Management.

03

Oxygenation Interventions & Management.

04

Tension Pneumothorax Interventions & Management.

05

Reversible Causes for Cardiac Arrest (4 Hs & 4 Ts).

06

Safe & appropriate use of a defibrillator or patient monitor.

07

Recognition of life-extinct and Return of spontaneous circulation.

08

Special Circumstances around Cardiac Arrest.

Entry Criteria:

Whilst no prior qualifications are required delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge equivalent to a Level 3 Emergency Care course.

Qualification assessment:

Delegates will undertake a series of assessed serials and a multiple-choice written examination. Delegates will be provided a pre-course assessment paper to a similar standard. Please note, this is an enrolment, pre-learning task and is not assessed.

Qualification Duration:

The Tactical Immediate Life-Support qualification is valid for 4 years upon successful completion. To recertify, delegates will need to attend the course again.

Additional Information:

Delegates will be issued pre-learning materials for this course including various skill-memoires.

Luke Hamilton

Luke is an active Critical Care Paramedic in the South-East of England and has worked in the Emergency Services for over 18 years. Luke has a passion for better education, and recently co-authored a section in a Critical Care Paramedicine publishing.

PJ McLeod

PJ is an active Paramedic working in the North-East of England. PJ has been in the emergency ambulance service for over 7 years. Prior to this PJ served as a Military Medic in the British Army for over 10 years. PJ is currently studying for a PgCert in Critical Care. 

Georgia Leadbeater

Georgia is a registered Nurse, having spent the last 15 years working in numerous Emergency Departments and a Major Trauma Unit predominantly in Resus. Georgia currently works as a Regional Clinical Lead for one of the UKs biggest NHS111 Providers.

Our TILS™ instructors have over 40 combined years of patient facing, hands-on experience and exposure. Their experience ranges from the Emergency Department of a Major Trauma Unit, high-acuity pre-hospital critical care on the roadside to immediate trauma care in hostile environments in Afghanistan.

The Medics Lodge TILS™ course is predominantly delivered to closed groups of non-registered healthcare professionals and first responders with our partner Alford Group. If you’re interested in attending this course, please email training@explosives.net

Sometimes we have a select number of open course dates and positions that are made available for individuals or organizations outside of contractual agreements.

We do, in most cases offer a discount to serving members of the Armed Forces that are self-funding. For any open-courses that are available discounts can also be extended to veterans. We also offer discounts to Student Paramedics that are self-funding.

Please note – if course enrolment is directly through Alford Group we can’t promise individual discounts and would advise that you speak with Alford directly.

To attend this course, you must have some experience and underlying knowledge in emergency resuscitation. Ideally any qualification or course that covers basic life support and the safe use of an AED.

Due to the nature of this qualification, candidates should be physically capable of undertaking practical assessments in a range of environments including live casualty handling.

There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification; however, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the MQC.

To pass the MQC, delegates must achieve a score of 21 or more. The MQC is out of 30 marks and involves 30 questions.

If you do not achieve the pass mark, your case will be reviewed by our instructional team who will advise on what to do going forward. In some cases this could be deferral to another course, question confirmation and/or a retest.

The Medics Lodge TILS™ course is regulated internally, ensuring that all content adheres to UK clinical practices and guidelines. TILS™ is not a regulated qualification under any 3rd party awarding organisations and this does not indicate a inferior experience.
