This qualification is designed for individuals working in security services or high-risk environments who need an advanced First Aid certification.

The course ensures that learners can provide appropriate assistance for various medical conditions and trauma-related injuries, including an understanding of ballistic and blast injuries.

This qualification not only supports a professional role in the workplace but also prepares learners for further education in this field.

Candidates will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to manage time-critical medical and trauma emergencies confidently.

The Medics Lodge offers a combination of comprehensive short seminars, practical skill stations, and dynamic, immersive simulations based on real-world incidents. Our delivery involves highly realistic simulations that replicate the intensity and complexity of real-world pre-hospital emergency and tactical scenarios. This immersive method exceeds traditional classroom-based learning, offering an exceptional level of readiness for first responders.

Seminars

During the course, delegates are involved in a collection of theoretical short seminars that promote engagement, retention and critical thinking.

Stations

Throughout the course, delegates will participate in a range of objective-driven skill stations from wound packing to airway management in a mix of settings.

Simulations

Expect this delivery to be fast-moving, with time-appropriate and feedback-rich simulations that work effectively both as part of a team and as an individual.

This qualification is designed for individuals who need advanced First Aid skills. While it has been developed explicitly for Close Protection Operatives both in the UK and internationally, the knowledge and skills gained from this qualification are also beneficial for anyone working in remote locations.

Treatment zones

Including scene safety and mechanism of injury.

Major Bleeding

Emergency Tourniquets, Haemostatic Agents.

Airway

Manual manoeuvres and basic adjuncts.

Respiratory

Respiratory problems and basic life support. (Inc AED).

Circulation

Recognition of shock and body assessment.

Neurological

Neurological assessment and both head and eye injuries.

Environment

Management of hypothermia and heat illness.

Medical

Recognition of common medical emergencies.

Additional information

Delegates will receive pre-learning materials and tasks to complete on our online learning platform before the course commencement. Our delivery is limited to a maximum of 8 delegates per course.

Entry criteria

Delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge base equivalent to a Level 3 first-aid or PHEM course or above.

Assessments

Delegates will be continuously observed and assessed alongside a multiple-choice question (MCQ) written examination.

Certification

Successful delegates will be awarded a Level 3 Award for the First Person on Scene (International), which is valid for a period of three years.

We do, in most cases offer a discount to serving members of the Armed Forces that are self-funding. For any open-courses that are available discounts can also be extended to veterans. We also offer discounts to Student Paramedics that are self-funding.

To attend this course, you must have some experience and underlying knowledge in emergency medicine. Ideally any qualification or course that meets level B-C on the faculty of pre-hospital cares skill-set framework or above.

Due to the nature of this qualification, candidates should be physically capable of undertaking practical assessments in a range of environments including live casualty handling.

There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification; however, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the MQC.

To pass the MQC, delegates must achieve a score of 35 or more. The MQC is out of 50 marks and involves 50 questions which are automatically generated from a question bank.

If you do not achieve the pass mark, your case will be reviewed by our instructional team who will advise on what to do going forward. In some cases this could be deferral to another course, question confirmation and/or a retest.

Learners could progress to the QNUK Level 3 Award for First Responders (RQF) or, if learners are looking for a more immersive, trauma-focused course, then learners could progress onto our rescue trauma and casualty care (RTACC) course.

The Medics Lodge is a flagship provider of the Level 3 Award in Rescue Trauma and Casualty Care (RTACC) and delivers a unique learning experience specifically designed for emergency services personnel and high-risk workplace members, such as Police, Military, and Close Protection Officers.

RTACC provides a high level of advanced casualty trauma care, specifically for individuals operating in high-risk, hazardous and hostile pre-hospital environments.

Candidates will be equipped with skills and knowledge to confidently manage time-critical medical and trauma emergencies in an engaging but challenging manner whilst waiting for expert medical help.

The Medics Lodge is one of the few training providers worldwide to have a professional partnership with The Anaesthesia, Trauma, and Critical Care Group (TAG) and has developed the RTACC programme to be a leading option for pre-hospital trauma courses for first responders. RTACC can be customised and adapted to meet the operational and clinical needs of our clients, covering a wide range of core modules.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is also a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, ideal for those looking to work or volunteer as a first responder. FREC 3 is a 5 day course, designed for those who are often first to arrive at a potential first aid emergency and is predominantly a medical emergency heavy course.

RTACC however is 3 days long, and designed by active, current and leading pre-hospital experts and designed to be more hands-on, immersive and trauma focused. FREC 3 fulfils the competencies set out in the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (PHEM) skills framework at descriptor level D whilst RTACC is a level E course as per the PHEM competencies.
