NAEMT’s Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.
TECC is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC).

The Medics Lodge has adapted this programme to provide a more hands-on, immersive, and simulation-focused 2-day course that delivers a higher level of pre-hospital trauma care education and skills training that aligns with UK clinical guidelines and best practices.
The TECC course presents the three phases of pre-hospital tactical care utilising the MARCH Trauma System (MTS). It integrates evidence-based seminars, hands-on skill stations and immersive simulations over two days.
This course is predominantly for registered healthcare practitioners but is open to team medics, student Paramedics, and other first-responders who may be responsible for providing high acuity, low occurrence (HALO) emergency trauma care.
The Medics Lodge Tactical Emergency Care Course covers a wide range of core topics which build upon delegates’ preestablished knowledge base. Our delivery includes numerous hands-on skill stations on basic to advanced clinical interventions and procedures. Whilst these interventions might exceed the scope of practice of some delegates, it does establish confidence in recognition and assistance.
Direct, indirect and Extrication zones.
Emergency Tourniquets, Haemostatic Agents.
Emergency Surgical Cricothyroidotomy.
Emergency Chest Needle Decompression (NDC).
Intravenous (IV) and intraosseous (IO) access.
Fluids, tranexamic acid (TXA) and analgesia (Morphine).
Analgesia (Ketamine) and neurological assessment.
Packaging, extrication techniques and handover.
The Medics Lodge is one of only three authorised TECC providers in the United Kingdom and the only TECC provider that utilises live casualty actors, professional simulation and pyrotechnic techniques and sim-rounds within the simulations, making it ideal for police medics, SORT and HART teams.
Delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge at level D or above on the faculty of pre-hospital care skillset framework.
Delegates will undertake a series of assessed serials and a 50-question multiple-choice written examination.
The NAEMT Tactical Emergency Casualty Care qualification is valid for 4 years upon successful completion. To recertify, delegates will need to attend the course again.
Delegates will be issued a free NAEMT TECC course manual to support learning and engagement.

TECC is a recognised course in over 60 countries and is widely considered a leading course in law enforcement in the USA.
Despite some minor terminology differences, the material, guidelines and procedures have been aligned to UK best practices.
Whilst TECC is aimed at practising medical professionals, who naturally, as part of their role, have the governance and scope of practice to undertake all of the interventions, it is not restricted to Paramedics.
Anyone can attend this course, although, like every course, it does not certify the right to practice. Many of the simulations are structured around incidents that would involve the police at almost every stage.
The two sets of guidelines are naturally related, but each has a necessary difference in language, scope, applicability and flexibility. There are three primary differences between TECC and TCCC: guideline terminology, trauma care recommendations and operational focus.

Whilst no prior qualifications are required delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge at level D or above on the faculty of pre-hospital cares skillset framework.
Qualification assessment:
Delegates will undertake a series of assessed serials and a multiple-choice written examination. Delegates will be provided a pre-course assessment paper to a similar standard. Please note, this is an enrolment, pre-learning task and is not assessed.
Qualification Duration:
The NAEMT Tactical Emergency Casualty Care qualification is valid for 4 years upon successful completion. To recertify, delegates will need to attend the course again.

Our TECC instructors have over 40 combined years of patient facing, hands-on experience and exposure. Their experience ranges from the Emergency Department of a Major Trauma Unit, high-acuity pre-hospital critical care on the roadside to immediate trauma care in hostile environments in Afghanistan.
Luke is an active Critical Care Paramedic in the South-East of England and has worked in the Emergency Services for over 18 years. Luke has a passion for better education, and recently co-authored a section in a Critical Care Paramedicine publishing.
PJ is an active Paramedic working in the North-East of England. PJ has been in the emergency ambulance service for over 7 years. Prior to this PJ served as a Military Medic in the British Army for over 10 years. PJ is currently studying for a PgCert in Critical Care.

Sometimes we have a select number of open course dates and positions that are made available for individuals or organizations outside of contractual agreements.
We do, in most cases offer a discount to serving members of the Armed Forces that are self-funding. For any open-courses that are available discounts can also be extended to veterans. We also offer discounts to Student Paramedics that are self-funding.
Please note – if course enrolment is directly through Alford Group we can’t promise individual discounts and would advise that you speak with Alford directly.
To attend this course, you must have some experience and underlying knowledge in emergency medicine. Ideally any qualification or course that meets level D on the faculty of pre-hospital cares skill-set framework or above.
Due to the nature of this qualification, candidates should be physically capable of undertaking practical assessments in a range of environments including live casualty handling.
There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification; however, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the MQC.
To pass the MQC, delegates must achieve a score of 76 or more. The MQC is out of 100 marks and involves 50 questions which are automatically generated by NAEMT.
If you do not achieve the pass mark, your case will be reviewed by our instructional team who will advise on what to do going forward. In some cases this could be deferral to another course, question confirmation and/or a retest.
NAEMT’s TECC course is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on TECC (Co-TECC), and meets all of the updated National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Competency Domains. This course is accredited by CAPCE for 16 hours of continuing education credit, and recognized by NREMT.
Whilst TECC is predominantly an American course, it has been adapted to UK best practices and guidelines. TECC is an internationally recognised qualification in over 60 different countries.
