The Medics Lodge is a flagship provider of the Level 3 Award in Rescue Trauma and Casualty Care (RTACC) and delivers a unique learning experience specifically designed for emergency services personnel and high-risk workplace members, such as Police, Military, and Close Protection Officers.
RTACC provides a high level of advanced casualty trauma care, specifically for individuals operating in high-risk, hazardous and hostile pre-hospital environments.
Candidates will be equipped with skills and knowledge to confidently manage time-critical medical and trauma emergencies in an engaging but challenging manner whilst waiting for expert medical help.

The Medics Lodge offers a combination of comprehensive short seminars, practical skill stations, and dynamic, immersive simulations based on real-world incidents. Our delivery involves highly realistic simulations that replicate the intensity and complexity of real-world pre-hospital emergency and tactical scenarios. This immersive method exceeds traditional classroom-based learning, offering an exceptional level of readiness for contemporary medical professionals.
During the course, delegates are involved in a collection of theoretical short seminars that promote engagement, retention and critical thinking.
Throughout the course, delegates will participate in a range of objective-driven skill stations from wound packing to airway management in a mix of settings.
Expect this delivery to be fast-moving, with time-appropriate and feedback-rich simulations that work effectively both as part of a team and as an individual.

The Medics Lodge is one of the few training providers worldwide to have a professional partnership with The Anaesthesia, Trauma, and Critical Care Group (TAG) and has developed the RTACC programme to be a leading option for pre-hospital trauma courses for first responders. RTACC can be customised and adapted to meet the operational and clinical needs of our clients, covering a wide range of core modules.
Module One: Introduction to being an RTACC provider, kinematics, and mechanism of injury.
Module Two: Scene Assessment, Safe Approach & Initial Actions. Including triage.
Module Three: Direct/indirect pressure, haemostatic agents and tourniquet application.
Module Four: Manual techniques and Airway adjuncts, including Supraglottic Airways.
Module Five: Assessing and managing thoracic trauma and application of chest seals.
Module Six: Adult immediate life-support (ILS) and pit-crew resuscitation.
Module Seven: Management of internal injuries, wounds and recognition of shock.
Module Eight: Assessment and treatment of head injuries and extrication techniques.
Module Nine: Adult and paediatric BLS, covering choking and the safe use of a Defibrillator.
Module Ten: Recognition and early management of common medical emergencies.
Module Eleven: Safe use of emergency oxygen administration, including health and safety.
Whilst no prior qualifications are required, delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge base equivalent to a Level 3 first-aid or PHEM course or above.
Delegates will be continuously observed and assessed alongside a series of assessed practical sessions, as well as a thirty multiple-choice question (MCQ) written examination.
The Rescue Trauma And Casualty Care qualification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion. To recertify, delegates will need to repeat the whole course.
Delegates will be issued pre-learning materials and pre-course tasks to complete on our online Classroom platform. The RTACC manual can be purchased if requested.

The Medics Lodge RTACC course is predominantly delivered to closed groups of non-registered healthcare professionals and first responders. We do run occasional open courses across the UK. If you’re interested in attending this course, please email training@medicslodge.com
We do, in most cases offer a discount to serving members of the Armed Forces that are self-funding. For any open-courses that are available discounts can also be extended to veterans. We also offer discounts to Student Paramedics that are self-funding.
Please note – if course enrolment is directly through Alford Group we can’t promise individual discounts and would advise that you speak with Alford directly.
To attend this course, you must have some experience and underlying knowledge in emergency medicine. Ideally any qualification or course that meets level B-C on the faculty of pre-hospital cares skill-set framework or above.
Due to the nature of this qualification, candidates should be physically capable of undertaking practical assessments in a range of environments including live casualty handling.
There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification; however, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the MQC.
To pass the MQC, delegates must achieve a score of 21 or more. The MQC is out of 30 marks and involves 30 questions which are automatically generated by The ATACC Group.
If you do not achieve the pass mark, your case will be reviewed by our instructional team who will advise on what to do going forward. In some cases this could be deferral to another course, question confirmation and/or a retest.
The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is also a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, ideal for those looking to work or volunteer as a first responder. FREC 3 is a 5 day course, designed for those who are often first to arrive at a potential first aid emergency and is predominantly a medical emergency heavy course.
RTACC however is 3 days long, and designed by active, current and leading pre-hospital experts and designed to be more hands-on, immersive and trauma focused. FREC 3 fulfils the competencies set out in the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (PHEM) skills framework at descriptor level D whilst RTACC is a level E course as per the PHEM competencies.
