OPEN RTACC COURSES.
The Medics Lodge Rescue Trauma And Casualty Care (RTACC) course predominantly delivers an advanced level of first-aid trauma care to non-registered healthcare professionals and first responders who operate in hostile environments.
Sometimes we have a select number of open course dates and positions made available for individuals or organizations outside of contractual agreements. If you’re interested in attending any open course, please email us at training@medicslodge.com.
RTACC delivers a high level of advanced casualty trauma care, specifically for individuals operating in high-risk, hazardous and hostile pre-hospital environments.
The Medics Lodge delivers a high level of enhanced first aid, specifically designed for emergency services personnel, and high-risk workplace members, such as Police, Military, and Close Protection Officers.
Candidates will be equipped with skills and knowledge to confidently manage time critical medical and trauma emergencies in an engaging but challenging manner. Whilst this list is not exhaustive, RTACC covers the following:
ROLE of an
RTACC provider
Introduction of being an RTACC provider, kinematics, and mechanism of injury.
Responding to an incident
Scene Assessment, Safe Approach & Initial Actions. Including triage.
Major Haemorrhage
direct/indirect pressure, haemostatic agents and tourniquet application.
Patient Airway Management
Manual techniques and Airway adjuncts, including Supraglottic Airways.
Respiratory Assessment
Assessing and managing thoracic trauma and application of chest seals.
Emergency Resuscitation
Adult immediate life-support (ILS) and pit-crew resuscitation.
Circulation
And Shock
Management of internal injuries, wounds and recognition of shock.
Head, Handling & Hypothermia
Assessment and treatment of head injuries and extrication techniques.
Basic Life Support
Adult and paediatric BLS, covering choking and the safe use of a Defibrillator.
Medical Emergencies
Recognition and early management of common medical emergencies.
Emergency Oxygen
Safe use of emergency oxygen administration including health and safety.
Entry Criteria:
Whilst no prior qualifications are required delegates should have the appropriate experience and knowledge equivalent to a Level 3 first-Aid Course in the past 3 years.
Qualification assessment:
Delegates will undertake a series of assessed serials and a multiple-choice written examination. Delegates will be provided a pre-course assessment paper to a similar standard. Please note, this is an enrolment, pre-learning task and is not assessed.
Qualification Duration:
The Rescue Trauma And Casualty Care qualification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion. To recertify, delegates will need to attend the course again.
Additional Information:
Delegates will be issued pre-learning materials and pre-course tasks to complete on our online Classroom platform. The RTACC manual is currently being rewritten but can be ordered if requested.
Luke Hamilton
Luke is an active Critical Care Paramedic in the South-East of England and has worked in the Emergency Services for over 18 years. Luke has a passion for better education, and recently co-authored a section in a Critical Care Paramedicine publishing.
PJ McLeod
PJ is an active Paramedic working in the North-East of England. PJ has been in the emergency ambulance service for over 7 years. Prior to this PJ served as a Military Medic in the British Army for over 10 years. PJ is currently studying for a PgCert in Critical Care.
Georgia Leadbeater
Georgia is a registered Nurse, having spent the last 15 years working in numerous Emergency Departments and a Major Trauma Unit predominantly in Resus. Georgia currently works as a Regional Clinical Lead for one of the UKs biggest NHS111 Providers.

The Medics Lodge has a reputation of excellence which is a reflection of our clinical education team. All of whom are actively practising healthcare professionals and share a passionate for purposeful medical education.
Our instructors have over 40 combined years of patient facing, hands-on experience and exposure. Their experience ranges from the Emergency Department of a Major Trauma Unit, high-acuity pre-hospital critical care on the roadside to immediate trauma care in hostile environments in Afghanistan.
How and where do i book?
The Medics Lodge RTACC course is predominantly delivered to closed groups of non-registered healthcare professionals and first responders. We do run occasional open courses across the UK. If you’re interested in attending this course, please email training@medicslodge.com
Do you offer military discount?
We do, in most cases offer a discount to serving members of the Armed Forces that are self-funding. For any open-courses that are available discounts can also be extended to veterans. We also offer discounts to Student Paramedics that are self-funding.
Please note – if course enrolment is directly through Alford Group we can’t promise individual discounts and would advise that you speak with Alford directly.
What are the entry requirements?
To attend this course, you must have some experience and underlying knowledge in emergency medicine. Ideally any qualification or course that meets level B-C on the faculty of pre-hospital cares skill-set framework or above.
Due to the nature of this qualification, candidates should be physically capable of undertaking practical assessments in a range of environments including live casualty handling.
There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification; however, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the MQC.
What happens if i don't pass the MQC?
To pass the MQC, delegates must achieve a score of 21 or more. The MQC is out of 30 marks and involves 30 questions which are automatically generated by The ATACC Group.
If you do not achieve the pass mark, your case will be reviewed by our instructional team who will advise on what to do going forward. In some cases this could be deferral to another course, question confirmation and/or a retest.
What's the difference between RTACC and FREC 3?
The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is also a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, ideal for those looking to work or volunteer as a first responder. FREC 3 is a 5 day course, designed for those who are often first to arrive at a potential first aid emergency and is predominantly a medical emergency heavy course.
RTACC however is 3 days long, and designed by active, current and leading pre-hospital experts and designed to be more hands-on, immersive and trauma focused. FREC 3 fulfils the competencies set out in the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (PHEM) skills framework at descriptor level D whilst RTACC is a level E course as per the PHEM competencies.
